A woman’s uterus is intended to be the home of a new baby. That means it needs to be healthy and in good shape in order to take care of that new little one. If it isn’t functioning properly, it could derail the entire operation but what can you do to improve your uterine health?

The uterus is made up of 3 layers: the endometrium, the myometrium, and the perimetrium. The uterus is connected to the cervix, the fallopian tubes, and the vagina. The main purpose of the uterus is to nourish and protect the fetus prior to the birth. It’s important to keep your uterus healthy for not just yourself but the health of your baby.

There are a few reasons that your uterus may not be performing the basic functions that it’s supposed to. One of the most prominent causes of a malfunctioning uterus is a sedentary lifestyle. Leading a life of little to no exercise or activity causes a shortage of blood to the uterus and reproductive organs. Your desk job can cause the blood flow to your uterus to be cut off. Consider a more active lifestyle or, at the very least, get up frequently throughout the day to give your blood a chance to flow!

Painful periods or irregular menstrual cycles could be caused by Uterine Fibroids forming in the layers of the uterus. While it is possible to carry to term with Uterine Fibroids, there is also a chance that it will cause complications. Consult your doctor to determine if this is a potential problem for your pregnancy.

Endometriosis affects 176 million women around the world and is caused by the endometrium lining tissue growing outside of the uterus. The tissue continues to be influenced by your menstrual cycle just as it would if it were growing inside the uterus. The repeated internal bleeding and inflammation could cause scar tissue which is a big cause of infertility in women.


Improving Your Uterine Health

What can you do to improve the health of your uterus and increase your chances of conceiving? Learn to lead a more active lifestyle. Increasing the blood flow will improve the state of your uterus. Reducing the number of sexual partners could also reduce your chances of pelvic inflammation which will in turn increase your chances of conceiving.

While none of these methods are absolute, keeping your uterus in good health will certainly improve your chances of conception.
